I just want to ask: who would buy such an ugly doll?

If it's okay as a standalone story, it's a lot more problematic as an expansion of The Conjuring. The characters and scenes are too scattered, and the scenes are basically given to the female protagonist, so that the male protagonist, Evelyn, and the priest have been weakened too much. Religious themes such as demons, sacrifice, and redemption have little appeal to non-Christian audiences. The Evelyn self-sacrifice line was so watered down that the ending seemed a little abrupt and rushed. One star for that sewing machine and two stars for the others.
