The Steel City in the film was shot on-site in Austin, Texas, covering an area of 96,000 square feet. A 6-kilometer-long cable runs through the building, allowing it to illuminate the entire night of the filming. Adding some space to the city to make it more scaled, the end of the street is open, and different areas are dressed up as different areas of the city. The overall layout of the city truly borrows OSM data from South American cities such as Panama and Buenos Aires.
When "Alita: Battle Angel" was filmed, most of the scenes were not green screens, but real scenes. For this reason, Weta Studio built the scene of the city. The entire scene of the city occupies an area of 77,000 square feet. The construction took four months and six days. The huge two-story set is full of amazing details, including street signs, multilingual graffiti on the walls, thrift stores, Mexican restaurants, fortune-telling shops, automated taxis lined up on the street, etc. None of the streets in the set are straight. This is to make it easier for the director to use CG special effects in post-production to make the distant view, so that the city looks more spectacular.
