On August 31, 2009, the Walt Disney Company announced that it was acquiring Marvel Entertainment for approximately US$4 billion. Disney CEO Robert Iger said that Disney intends to launch Marvel’s products on various media platforms, including TVs. In June 2010, Marvel announced that they would create Marvel Television as a division of Marvel Entertainment, with Jeph Loeb as the company’s president. After taking office, Loeb expressed interest in cooperating with the ABC family and ABC family, both of which are Disney’s. Afterwards, several development plans based on Marvel comics content were changed, including the TV series AKA Jessica Jones based on Alias and the series based on the Hulk, but they were all shelved.
At the same time, the movie "Avengers", released in 2012, achieved the third highest grossing record in the world's film history. This movie is about the use of S.H.I.E.L.D. to gather a group of superheroes to defend the planet.
