The film is based on the writings of Wind Man. The director is Takashi Koizumi, who has been with Wind Man for many years and served as an assistant director in many of his films. The crew is basically the old team of Wind Man, and the cast also includes actors who are inextricably related to Kurosawa, including Shiro Mifune, who has been out of film for 28 years, and Takashi Kato, the grandson of Wind Man. The story takes place in the era of enjoyment, which is tired of luxury and advocates substance. It takes a despairing but noble warrior as the protagonist, reflecting a splendid outlook on life that is as bright as the rain. The film was screened as a commemorative special at the Venice International Film Festival in 1999, and won eight awards including Best Picture and Best Actor at the Japan Academy Awards of the year
