Director J.C. Chen Doer used the skills of a professional playwright to peel off the entire story and characters layer by layer and show them to the audience.
This tough, rough, and atmospheric story lacks some of the methodical skills in "All Is Lost." However, the suppressed tension in the film and the director's skillful manipulation of the complex plot made up for this deficiency.
The rhythm and performance of the film serve the entire story and the ideas it conveys.
This is a dull movie, but it is very smooth and clean. The whole movie unfolds and runs in a precise way.
The story of "A Most Violent Year" is not tainted with too much blood, this is a movie with the wrong name.
