Macau iffam takes a close-up shot at a wide angle, or he is silently gazing at his emotions and state. Malik always focuses this gaze on the ultimate proposition of mankind and life: human nature's constant questioning and eternal search for poetry and divinity. Even if it is a faint existence in history that has been abandoned by the world and the mortal, as long as it silently persists in the suffering that self-will chooses willingly, it is a saint. There is always indifferent light in the dark corridor, and I choose to turn my back to it and face hopelessness.

The unique perspective of the film makes me feel very fresh. Evil is just a symbol. It describes human behavior and uses religious belief values. The theme is clear, but people who watch it for three hours are too sad, and it uses dialogue. The theme of the story is too flat, and the story is a bit unreasonable, and it could be more concise.

Lorenz Schwaninger: [Talking to his daughter Fani, who is also Franz Jägerstätter's wife, about Franz's imprisonment and the resultant mistreatment that the family is facing] Better to suffer injustice than to do it.

Closing Title Card: ...the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs. -George Eliot
