2.28 Incident: On February 27, 1947, Tianma Teahouse, Nanjing West Road, Taipei City. A middle-aged widow with a son and a daughter, Jiang Mai 's cigarette stall was investigated and dealt with by the Taiwan Provincial Monopoly Bureau Commissioner Ye Degen and 9 anti-smuggling team members. During the pulling, an anti-smuggling team beat Jiang Mai to the ground with the butt of a gun. The angry onlookers clashed with the anti-smuggling team, injuring the anti-smuggling officer Zhao Zijian and police officer Zhang Qixiang. The anti-smuggling officer Fu Xuetong shot at the crowd, killing innocent citizen Chen Wenxi on the spot. That night, some people crowded to the Taipei City Police Station and the gendarmerie regiment to demand severe punishment for the murderer.
On February 28, 1947, the citizens of Taipei went on strike, marched to petition, and were suppressed by the Kuomintang authorities, arousing the anger of the people and a large-scale armed riot broke out. Within days, the rioters took control of most of Taiwan Province. The Chief Executive of Taiwan Province, Chen Gongqia , urgently called Nanjing for help. The Nationalist government dispatched the 21st Army stationed in Shanghai to land in Keelung, stationed in Taipei, and carried out a large-scale suppression of the masses. A large number of Taiwanese citizens, students and social celebrities, including professors, writers, and doctors, were massacred, and more than 800 people died.
