Carlo Gero is a nine-year-old child living in the Bronx area where Italians gather. He yearns for the gang life around him, but his father Rowlandson has a sense of justice and tries his best to help his son not be polluted by the bad atmosphere in the area. Carlo Gero witnessed a murder, but refused to confess that the murderer was Sonny, a gang figure in the area. This incident prompted them to start a long friendship like a father and son. In the following eight years, Sonny’s power gradually expanded, and Rowlandson’s fears that his son would go astray became more dignified, and the young Carlo Gero became the common core of the two "fathers."
De Niro plays the role of an Italian-American in the film-bus driver Roland Anello. The protagonist is Carlo Gero, the son of Aneiro, played by the young Frances Capra. In Brooks, the most famous gangster near Carlogello's house is the flashy "smart boy" Sonny. Carlo Gero witnessed Sonny's murder, but for the sake of the neighborhood's reputation, he refused to disclose the situation to the police. Sonny thought he was a friend enough, so he taught this sensitive young man something about the underworld. Although Carlo Gero admires Sonny very much, he also loves and respects his honest father. For this seventeen-year-old boy, how to decide the direction of life has become a tragedy.
