In order to enhance the realism and emotional appeal of the film, the main creative staff decided to shoot in the chronological order of the story. Although this means that the shooting cost will increase significantly, it will help the actors to be more engaged in the performance. Before the filming started, Howard arranged a two-week rehearsal and invited John Nash, who was over seventy years old, to come to the scene to guide him. In order to make the mathematics-related content of the film accurate and credible, during the filming,, a mathematics professor at Barnard College, came to the set every day to check the details of mathematics.
In order to create a "golden-yellow" effect in the campus scene at the beginning of the film, the crew used a low-contrast motion picture filmand exposed the film to yellow light before loading it into the camera for shooting.
The Nobel Prize Ceremony was filmed in the Rigorous Auditorium of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. For this scene, the film crew spent more than 8 hours on setting and makeup. However, the subsequent scenes in the hall were shot in other locations.
