The film is adapted from director Shin Aker’s 2005 short film "9" of the same name.

Probably in the middle of 2005, screenwriter Pamela Patler finished the work of "Zombie Bride" and devoted himself to the writing of the script of "9".
The robots are sewing people, and Shin Aker found everything that could be used to make them: Shin Aker used rag heads, pins, buttons, and sawdust. The apocalyptic scenes in the film come from photos of medieval European buildings, such as castles and churches.
The current animation industry is dominated by CG technology. In addition to providing more realistic and shocking audio-visual effects, the powerful working ability of computers is also a major reason why many directors choose CG. But from countless failures, Shin Ake and his crew have realized that although CG is important, CG is not the protagonist in "9".
The film was produced by Tim Bolton and "Wanted" director Timo Beckmanbetov. Elijah Wood dubbed the main character 9, as well as John C. Reilly, Christopher Plummer and Jennifer Connelly.
